A 25-year-old Scottish woman is opening up about how a rare medical condition is making her life difficult. Summer Robert has macromastia, also known as breast hypertrophy. Her boobs keep growing over time, and she says it has caused her physical pain, emotional distress, and financial burden.

Early Growth of Cup Size and Custom Bra

Summer said she has struggled with her enlarging breasts since her teenage years. By age 16, she says her cup size reached double J. Over the years, she has had to wear custom bras and corsets because off-the-shelf lingerie does not fit. She revealed she once bought a bespoke bra for £800, but it broke within a month.

“My bust goes up a little bit every month … I’ve had months where I grow two sizes, I’ve had months where I stay the same,” Summer explained. She says her breasts now weigh approximately 25kg, a weight that strains her shoulders, back, and posture.

Bigger breasts cause of Daily Harassment and Public Humiliation

The condition also affects her mental well-being. Summer shared stories of public harassment, “I’ve had a man touching himself in front of me on the subway, I’ve had grown men grope me at work … I once had a group of around five guys circle me at the gym just staring at me.”

She also recalled a woman throwing a drink on her after her husband stared at her chest.

Macromastia: A Long Fight for Medical Recognition

Despite these struggles, Summer says she had to push for years to be taken seriously by doctors. She visited them repeatedly starting at age 16, but she only received a formal diagnosis in her early 20s. She said her condition was often dismissed as normal growth.

What is Macromastia?

Macromastia can develop for many reasons, including hormone changes, medications, or during puberty. The condition can lead to pain, infections, and difficulties with daily life. Some women with this condition may eventually need breast reduction surgery or even a mastectomy to manage symptoms.

Living With Confidence Despite Challenges

For Summer, surgery is something she hopes for but also fears. She said her “biggest mission” is to feel comfortable in her clothes and her skin. At 4 ft 11 in, she says her body size and breast weight make fashion especially difficult.

Still, she uses her voice and her platform to raise awareness. She frequently shares updates with her 225,000 Instagram followers. She jokes about embracing the “novelty” of her condition, saying she might become “one walking boob” someday.

A Message of Body Positivity

Despite all the harassment and health struggles, Summer remains confident. “I love my body, my body has never been the problem – I wish I could walk about naked and everyone see how much I love it,” she said.

Through all the challenges, Summer is learning to love herself more. Her message is simple but powerful: our bodies are not the problem. The real issue lies in how society treats them.
