Indian-origin politician Aftab Pureval has been re-elected for a second term as Mayor of Cincinnati, defeating Republican challenger Cory Bowman convincingly. Pureval's win not only reinforces his popularity but also consolidates Democratic control over the city's government, Fox News reported.

Pureval had already beaten Bowman in May's open primary taking more than 80% of the vote. The two were the top finishers and moved on to the general election, but Bowman who has never held public office lagged throughout, despite being backed by his half-brother, U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

Bowman's Run & Family Ties to Washington

Cory Bowman launched his candidacy inspired by Vance's ascendancy. Vance himself had publicly backed him, saying that his brother was a good guy with a heart for service and called on voters to rally around him. However, Bowman's inexperience and the strong record that Pureval had built up in city governance left little doubt as to the outcome.
