Christmas preparations are underway at the White House, even though it is months away. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania released an application to invite Americans to volunteer at the activities, prep-work and performances at the People's House.

Who Can Apply to Volunteer?

Americans from all states are invited. This holiday season, they have a chance to help decorate the white house. The age criterion to be able to apply is 18 years or older. Group applications are not accepted.

Volunteers should be present in Washington, D.C., at their respective shift timings and must be available from 6:00 am to  5:00 pm daily. The White House confirmed that there will be no decoration on Thanksgiving Day.

There are three shift options available:

Shift 1: Monday, Nov 24: Wednesday, Nov 26

Shift 2: Friday, Nov 28: Sunday, Nov 30

Full Week: Monday, Nov 24: Sunday, Nov 30

(Applicants must choose either Shift 1, Shift 2, or the full week. Shift 1 and 2 cannot be combined as a full-week option.)

The White House noted that 'duties during Shift 1 will involve work at an offsite facility," which may include physical tasks such as "heavy lifting, work on ladders, and extended periods of time standing.

Volunteers will be provided two meals per day, but all other expenses including travel and accommodation, must be covered by the participants. All selected volunteers must undergo a background check, and final selection is contingent on clearance.

Who Can Apply to Perform?

The White House is also inviting performers and musical groups, such as school bands, choirs, and holiday-themed entertainers, to apply. Each group should submit only one application, and the designated point of contact (POC) must be 18 or older.

Performances must be either acapella or use acoustic instruments, as "no amplification is allowed or offered."

As with volunteers, performers are responsible for their own expenses and will be subject to a background check before final confirmation.

Important Deadlines

The deadline of the application for both volunteer decorators and performers is Friday, September, 5, 2025. Selected candidates will be notified by Monday, October 13, 2025 by 5:00 pm E.T.

Whether you're hoping to help deck the halls or spread holiday cheer through music, this is a unique opportunity to take part in a cherished White House tradition.
