Quality of life goes far beyond income it measures how safe, healthy, and content people feel in their daily lives. This includes access to healthcare, education, job satisfaction, work-life balance, safety, cost of living, and the surrounding environment. According to the United Nations, over 300 million people worldwide migrate seeking a better life, showing how important living conditions are.

To track this, Numbeo released its Quality of Life Report 2025, ranking countries based on factors such as life expectancy, education, child health, pollution levels, safety, and social services. The report highlights both the nations offering the best standards of living and those struggling to provide stability and security for citizens.

Top 10 Countries with the Best Quality of Life

At the top of the list is Luxembourg, scoring 218.2, recognized for its strong public services, safety, and prosperity. Oman, the only non-European country in the top 10, scores 215.1 and is praised for its low crime rate, modern infrastructure, and scenic beauty.

Other countries excelling in quality of life include the Netherlands (216.5), Denmark (215.1), Switzerland (210.9), Finland (208.3), Norway (199.2), Iceland (198.0), Austria (197.7), and Germany (195.2). These rankings underline how investments in healthcare, education, and clean environments consistently improve living standards.

Countries with the Worst Quality of Life

On the opposite end, countries like Nigeria, which scores only 15.6, face severe challenges despite natural resources. Poverty, weak healthcare, corruption, and security issues make daily life extremely difficult. Other nations struggling include Venezuela (73.7), Bangladesh (77.0), Sri Lanka (82.8), Egypt (83.2), Iran (86.7), Peru (90.7), Kenya (95.4), Vietnam (96.6), and Philippines (98.1). Even countries like Pakistan (76th, 105.7) contend with high inflation, limited job opportunities, weak governance, and healthcare shortcomings, impacting overall quality of life.

Where India Stands

India ranks 62nd in 2025 with a score of 124.4. The country has made notable progress in infrastructure, technology, and foreign investment, yet challenges remain. High pollution levels, population pressure, uneven access to healthcare, and stark urban-rural divides affect the daily life of citizens.

Despite performing better than neighbors like Pakistan and Bangladesh, India still falls below the global average, indicating the need for ongoing efforts to make life healthier, safer, and more fulfilling for all its residents.
