Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for Saudi Arabia on a two-day state visit, from April 22 to 23. He is in the country at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This visit marks Modi’s third trip to Saudi Arabia, following his earlier visits in 2016 and 2019.
Strengthening India-Saudi Arabia Relations
Modi highlighted the strategic partnership between India and Saudi Arabia. He emphasized their growing cooperation in defense, trade, energy, and people-to-people ties. “India deeply values its long and historic ties with Saudi Arabia,” Modi said in his pre-departure statement.
Meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
Modi called Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman his “brother” and expressed his excitement for the second meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council. “I look forward to participating in the second Meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council,” he stated.
Engagement with Indian Community in Saudi Arabia
During his visit, Modi will meet with the vibrant Indian community in Saudi Arabia. He acknowledged their significant role in strengthening cultural and human ties between the two nations. As part of the visit, he will also interact with Indian workers at a factory.
Key Discussions During the Visit
The visit offers a chance to discuss key regional and global issues. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri noted topics such as the Israel-Palestine conflict, West Asia’s situation, and maritime security threats from Houthi attacks.
