At least 14 people were injured in a violent incident at a factory in Mishima, central Japan, on Friday afternoon. Police arrested a suspect at the scene. The attack involved multiple stabbings plus an “unspecified liquid” spray, according to emergency officials. “Fourteen individuals are subject to transportation by emergency services,” a firefighting department official said.

This rare act of workplace violence shocked residents of Shizuoka Prefecture, a region northwest of Tokyo. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the motive and the nature of the liquid used.

What Happened at the Mishima Factory?

The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. local time at a rubber factory in Mishima City. According to reports, a man armed with a knife began attacking workers inside the facility. At the same time, an unspecified liquid was sprayed during the assault, adding to confusion and injuries.

Local fire authorities responded and transported at least 14 injured people to nearby hospitals. The exact condition of those wounded remains unclear at this time. The company and hospital officials have not yet released detailed medical updates.

Suspect Detained on Site

Police confirmed that the suspect was detained at the factory itself shortly after the attack began. Local media reports say officers arrested him without further violence. Details such as the suspect’s identity, age, or motive have not yet been released.

Authorities have restricted access to the scene and are conducting interviews and gathering evidence. Forensic teams are also collecting samples of the liquid that was sprayed to determine its composition and impact. The investigation is ongoing.

Official Response and Emergency Actions

The local fire department and police secured the area quickly. Fire officials said they received a call from the factory reporting multiple people had been stabbed and an unknown substance was sprayed. “Five or six people had been stabbed by someone,” a company official told authorities, and the spray was noted by first responders.

Emergency services treated and transported the injured to medical facilities. Police sealed off parts of the factory for safety and began questioning witnesses immediately.

Witnesses and Worker Accounts

Employees at the factory said they were startled when the incident began. Some workers managed to run to safety while others were assisted by colleagues and first responders. Officials are urging caution as the investigation continues.

Residents expressed shock, noting that Mishima and the surrounding Shizuoka region are not known for violent crime. This event has prompted discussion over workplace safety and security measures in industrial zones.

Liquid Spray Raises Concern

The use of an unspecified liquid in addition to the stabbing has raised alarms. Emergency officials are treating it as a possible hazardous substance. “A spray-like liquid had also been used,” fire department officials said. Scientists will analyse the liquid to determine whether it was harmful or a distraction tactic.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the liquid caused additional injuries or was part of a struggle for control.

Japan Sees Increased Focus on Industrial Security

While violent incidents are rare in Japan, this attack highlights a growing need to review industrial workplace security and emergency protocols. Incidents involving weapons or dangerous substances can have severe consequences in enclosed factory settings.

Experts say it is important for companies to enhance monitoring systems and emergency response training. Workers and community members are now calling for improved safety plans at factories nationwide.
