Israel Targets Houthi Airports And Strongholds In Yemen With Missile Strikes

Israel’s military launched strikes on several targets linked to Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement on Thursday, including Sana’a International Airport and key coastal ports, as tensions in the region escalate.

The Hezyaz and Ras Kanatib power stations as well as military facilities within Hodeidah, Salif, and Ras Kanatib ports were attacked. As per Al Masirah, a Houthi news outlet the strikes had targeted the airport, one of the power stations and Hodeidah.

The Houthis, known for their alignment with Iran, have not yet issued a response to the strikes. The group has previously launched drones and missiles at Israel, citing solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. On Saturday, a missile fired from Yemen landed in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa area, injuring 14 people, after Israel’s military failed to intercept it.

Houthi attacks over the past year have seriously interfered with international shipping routes, making vessels travel longer, costlier routes, resulting in global inflation due to the rerouting.

Israel has increased the diplomatic push efforts in Europe against Houthis labelling them as a terrorist organization. While UN Security Council is also scheduled to convene on Monday to address the recent Houthi strikes on Israel, according to Danny Danon, Israel’s UN Ambassador.

This wave of hostilities is a fresh manifestation of the complexities in the region, where the Houthis have asserted their position by missile strikes and Israel responded with targeted attacks that would curb their capabilities.
