Israel Receives US-Made Bombs Amid Rubio’s High-Level Talks

The Israeli Defence Ministry confirmed on Sunday that a shipment of powerful US-made bombs arrived overnight. This delivery coincided with Marco Rubio’s first visit to Israel as Washington’s top diplomat.

US Delivers Bomb Shipment to Israel

According to the Israeli ministry, the United States sent MK-84 aerial bombs, recently approved by the Trump administration. “A shipment of heavy aerial bombs recently released by the US government was received and unloaded overnight in Israel,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Israel Katz emphasized the significance of the delivery. “The munitions shipment that arrived in Israel, released by the Trump administration, represents a significant asset for the air force and the IDF (military) and serves as further evidence of the strong alliance between Israel and the United States,” he stated.

US Strengthens Israel’s Military Capabilities

Earlier in February, the Trump administration approved a $7.4 billion arms sale to Israel. This deal included bombs, missiles, and other military equipment. Consequently, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency noted that the sale enhances Israel’s ability to counter threats and defend its homeland.

Gaza Conflict and Ceasefire Developments

Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Hamas in Gaza in October 2023 after the militant group carried out a deadly attack. As a result, much of Gaza has been devastated, and millions of residents have been displaced.

Since January 19, a ceasefire has been in place, facilitating the release of hostages taken by Hamas. However, due to concerns over civilian casualties, former US President Joe Biden had previously blocked a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs. Nevertheless, reports suggest that Trump approved the delivery after assuming office.

Rubio’s Visit and Controversial Discussions

Meanwhile, Marco Rubio arrived in Israel on Sunday for his first official visit. He is expected to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials. During the visit, discussions will likely focus on the Gaza ceasefire and Trump’s plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan. Notably, this proposal has sparked widespread international criticism.
