Australia was left in shock after a deadly shooting at Bondi Beach, one of Sydney’s most crowded and well-known locations.
The attack took place on Sunday during a public gathering and resulted in the deaths of at least 15 people and many more hospitalized.
New South Wales (NSW) police have officially declared the incident a terrorist attack. Authorities confirmed that the violence occurred in a busy area filled with families, tourists, and local residents, leading to chaos and multiple injuries.
Two Attackers Involved in Bondi Beach Shooting
NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon stated that investigations confirmed only two shooters were involved in the attack.
The suspects were later identified as a father and son. Police also confirmed that the search for a possible third attacker had been stopped.
Who is Sajid Akram?
Sajid Akram, the 50-year-old father, was identified as one of the attackers. According to NSW police, he was a licensed firearms holder and legally owned six guns.
During the attack, police confronted him at the scene. He was shot and killed by officers while the situation was being brought under control.
Authorities are now investigating how Akram planned the attack and how the firearms were used. Police are also reviewing his background, movements, and any possible warning signs before the incident.
The 50-year-old suspect was a licensed firearms holder, according to New South Wales police. “He has six firearms licensed to him,” Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said at a news briefing.

Who is Naveed Akram?
Naveed Akram, the 24-year-old son, was apprehended at the scene shortly after the shooting. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Police confirmed that he remains under guard and is in critical but stable condition.
While officials have not released full details about his role, investigators believe he actively participated in the attack alongside his father. His statement is expected to be a key part of the ongoing investigation once his condition improves.

Bondi Beach is located about four miles east of Sydney’s city center and attracts millions of visitors every year. The area is known for its long coastline, surfing culture, and public events. On the day of the attack, a gathering linked to the first day of Hanukkah was taking place nearby.
Victims Range Between 10 and 87 years
The victims of the attack ranged in age from 10 to 87 years old. More than 40 people were rushed to hospitals, including children and police officers. Several remain in critical condition, while others are reported to be stable.
