
Bangladesh is observing national mourning today, in memory of the victims of the fighter aircraft crash.
India is extending urgent medical support to Bangladesh following the devastating fighter jet crash in Dhaka that killed 27 people. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Tuesday that a team of burn-specialist doctors and nurses will soon travel to Bangladesh to provide critical care.
The assistance is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise of support after the crash.
On July 21, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had condoled the loss of lives in the tragic air crash at Dhaka and had sent assurances of support and assistance," MEA said.
In a release from New Delhi, the MEA said the team would evaluate the health of the injured and may suggest further treatment and specialized care in India if needed.
"A team of burn-specialist Doctors and Nurses with requisite medical backup is to visit Dhaka soon to treat the victims. They will make an evaluation of the patients' condition with a recommendation for follow-up treatment and special care in India if required. Further medical teams may also be sent based on their initial assessment and treatment," the ministry said.
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has confirmed its coordination with the Bangladesh government to deliver timely medical assistance.
Following up on the Prime Minister of India's message, condoling on the horrific Milestone School plane crash and extending all possible support & assistance, Indian High Commission today wrote to Government of Bangladesh formally requesting to share information on any critical medical assistance that could be arranged in India for the victims injured in the horrific tragedy," an official release said.
"Indian High Commission will provide all facilitations required," it stated.
The death toll from the crash increased to 27 as of this morning, said Saidur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser. Bangladesh held a day of national mourning for the victims.
The plane used was a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 fighter, which crashed into Milestone School and College in the Diabari neighborhood on a training mission. Pilot Flight Lieutenant Mohammad Towkir Islam Sagar was killed, as per the Daily Star.
Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus declared the disaster an "irreparable" loss.
"Loss to the Air Force, the students, parents, teachers, and staff of Milestone School and College, and others hurt by this accident cannot be made good. It is a time of immense pain for the country."
He also demanded a proper investigation and ordered hospitals to provide treatment to the injured with utmost priority.
