Leh: Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Friday called on Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena at Raj Niwas in Leh and held discussions on strengthening civil-military cooperation and advancing development initiatives in the strategically significant Union Territory.

The meeting took place during General Dwivedi’s visit to Ladakh, a region that remains at the forefront of India’s security architecture owing to its sensitive border location. The visit comes amid the Army’s continued emphasis on maintaining operational preparedness and ensuring close coordination with the civil administration.

Sharing details of the interaction on social media, the Lieutenant Governor said a wide range of issues concerning the region’s development and security were discussed during the meeting.

“We discussed strengthening civil-military cooperation, fostering closer coordination between the administration and armed forces, re-employment of Agniveers in the UT administration, and advancing collective efforts for peace, stability and development in the region,” Saxena said in a post.

The discussions also focused on enhancing synergy between the Union Territory administration and the armed forces, which play a crucial role in both border management and supporting developmental activities in the high-altitude region.

The issue of providing employment opportunities to former Agniveers within the Union Territory administration also figured prominently during the meeting, reflecting efforts to effectively utilise the skills and experience of trained military personnel after completion of their service under the Agnipath scheme.

Officials said the interaction underscored the importance of continued collaboration between civil and military authorities in ensuring peace, stability and inclusive development across Ladakh, particularly in remote and border areas.

General Dwivedi, who took over as the Army Chief in June 2024, is scheduled to complete his tenure on June 30, 2026. His visit to Ladakh is being seen as part of the Army’s sustained engagement with key border regions and stakeholders ahead of the culmination of his tenure.
