Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced a significant cabinet reshuffle on Sunday, officially appointing a new Prime Minister and a key minister to oversee the critical energy portfolio. As the North African nation navigates difficult economic issues, the actions suggest a possible change in focus.
The presidential statement confirmed Sifi Ghrieb as the country's new Prime Minister. Ghrieb is not a new face in the government; he was previously the Minister of Industry. He had already been serving in the top job on an acting basis since President Tebboune ended the tenure of the previous Prime Minister, Nadir Larbaoui, last month. His confirmation suggests a desire for continuity and experience in managing the government's agenda.
A key appointment in the reshuffle is Mourad Adjal as the new Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy. Previously serving as the CEO of Sonelgaz, Algeria's state-owned electric power and gas utility firm, Adjal has direct industry experience to the post.
