A deadly train accident occurred late Saturday in Russia’s Bryansk region. As a result, at least seven people died and 30 others suffered injuries. Reuters reported this information, quoting the region’s governor, Alexander Bogomaz.
Train Derailed After Bridge Collapse
The passenger train was on its way from Moscow to Klimov. Suddenly, it went off the tracks in the Vygonichsky district. This happened after a bridge collapsed beneath it.
According to Russian Railways, “the collapse of a span structure of the road bridge as a result of an illegal interference in the operation of transport” caused the derailment. They shared this update on their Telegram channel.
Emergency Teams Quickly Responded
Soon after the accident, Governor Bogomaz confirmed the incident on Telegram. He said emergency teams had reached the site. The derailment took place near a federal highway. Because of this, rescue operations could begin quickly. The Russian emergency ministry also sent several rescue teams to help.
Train Driver Among the Victims
Meanwhile, Russian state media RIA and TASS reported that the train’s driver was one of the people killed. Additionally, two Telegram channels, Baza and SHOT, claimed the bridge may have been blown up on purpose. These channels often quote law enforcement sources. However, officials have not confirmed this possibility.
Photos and Videos Reveal the Damage
Later, government agencies released photos showing the damage. The images showed train cars destroyed and scattered around the broken bridge. At the same time, videos on social media captured the moments before the collapse. Some clips showed vehicles barely escaping the fall just seconds before the structure gave way.
