In Sainthia in the Birbhum district on Tuesday, women say goodbye to Goddess Durga through a ritual known as “Sindoor Khela” in honor of Vijay Dashmi.
On the last day of Durga Puja, a significant festival in India, especially in West Bengal, this rite is performed.
On the final day of Durga Puja, known as Vijay Dashmi, married Hindu women from Bengal put sindoor on the goddess’s feet and forehead, gave her sweets, and then covered each other’s faces with sindoor.
Sindoor Khela is known as the ‘vermillion game’, and is celebrated by Bengali Hindu women. Traditionally, this ritual is intended for married women who are expected to follow a defined custom and procedure when taking part in Sindoor Khela in the belief that it will bring them good luck and a long life for their husbands.
