Local women in Bhangore, South 24 Parganas, staged a protest on Sunday demanding justice in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case. The incident has sparked widespread outrage across West Bengal, with various groups joining the call for action.

The Indian Secular Front (ISF) also held a demonstration in Bhangore, echoing demands for justice for the victim. Meanwhile, in Kolkata, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar led a protest alongside BJP workers at Shyambazar, condemning the incident.

In a related development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor. The horrific crime took place on August 9 at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, where the victim was found dead in a seminar hall.

The state’s handling of the case has drawn significant criticism. Parimal Dey, a teacher from Alipurduar who was honored with the Banga Ratna award by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2019, announced his decision to return the award in protest against the state government’s response. “My conscience compels me to return it. I support the ongoing protests. The way she (Mamata Banerjee) is running the administration is not right,” Dey told ANI.

The discontent has extended to various sectors, including the entertainment industry. The West Bengal Motion Picture Artists’ Forum organized a protest in Tollygunge, demanding accountability from the Kolkata administration.

The Supreme Court has intervened in the matter, ordering the transfer of security at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The order came as part of a suo motu case regarding the tragic incident.

Protests and investigations continue as the state grapples with mounting public anger and demands for swift justice.
