The Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari emphasized that the participation of women in the Republic Day parade and flypast by the Indian Air Force will serve as an inspiration for the next generation of women considering a career in the force. He highlighted the gender-agnostic nature of the Indian Air Force, with women officers serving in various branches and undertaking diverse roles.
In this year’s Republic Day parade, the Indian Air Force is showcasing its capabilities, including 16 women pilots participating in the fly-past over Kartavya Path. The parade’s themes of ‘Viksit Bharat,’ rich cultural diversity, ‘Aatmanirbhar’ military prowess, and the growing Nari Shakti will be highlighted during the 90-minute event, graced by French President Emmanuel Macron.
For the first time, an all-women Tri-Service contingent will march, and women pilots will be part of the Indian Air Force’s fly-past, symbolizing Nari Shakti. The contingents of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will exclusively comprise women personnel. The air chief marshal expressed that these displays will inspire more women to join the Indian Air Force.
The parade will feature the theme “Indian Air Force Saksham Sashakt and Atmanirbhar,” encapsulating the progress of the Indian Air Force. The first batch of women Agniveers is participating, intending to inspire the next generation of women to choose the Indian Air Force as a career.
Regarding the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, the air chief marshal mentioned that the LCA program is progressing well, with the first two squadrons operational. The contract for 83 LCAs signed three years ago will see the first aircraft delivered next month. Additionally, plans for 97 additional LCAs are underway.
In response to the evolving challenges, the air chief marshal assured that the Indian Air Force has a clear capability development plan for the next two to three decades. This plan encompasses not only the replacement of older aircraft but also the induction of new platforms, considering emerging domains like space, cyber, and electronic warfare. The roadmap aims to ensure adequate capabilities in all domains, preparing the Indian Air Force to meet future challenges.
