A disturbing video of a woman being raped on a footpath in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, has ignited a political dispute between the Congress and the BJP. The incident occurred in the busy Koyla Phatak area and was filmed by passersby, who did not intervene, according to police reports.

City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Om Prakash Mishra stated, “Yesterday, around 3:30 pm, the woman reported the assault at the police station. A female officer was immediately assigned to her case, and an FIR was filed after notifying senior officers.”

The woman identified the suspect as Lokesh. Police formed a team, located Lokesh, and arrested him within two hours of the FIR. Lokesh confessed to the crime during interrogation. He was subsequently presented in court and sent to judicial custody.

Mishra added, “The woman’s statement was recorded in court, and the video of the assault has been taken as evidence.”

According to police, Lokesh had promised to marry the woman, made her drink alcohol, and then raped her. The disturbing footage was shot by onlookers who failed to stop the crime.

Congress State President Jitu Patwari criticized the BJP for their national protests over the RG Kar rape case, pointing out that a similar crime occurred in Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s constituency. Patwari said, “While the BJP protests nationwide, a woman was raped in the Chief Minister’s own area, which crosses all limits. Why are MP CM Mohan Yadav, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and PM Modi silent? There is jungle raj in Madhya Pradesh.”

In response, State BJP President VD Sharma accused the Congress of politicizing the incident. Sharma stated, “The Congress is using this incident to attack the Madhya Pradesh government. The BJP has implemented a law for the death penalty for such crimes. The accused has been arrested, and we will ensure strict action is taken against him.”
