Police reported on Tuesday that a woman from Darjeeling in West Bengal had been raped for a week in Delhi by her friend, who had also beaten and tormented her by pouring hot dal on her. Allegations of rape, sodomy, and causing pain were lodged against the accused, identified as Paras (28). They also mentioned his arrest on February 2.

In Raju Park, in the Neb Sarai neighbourhood of south Delhi, the woman had been living with Paras for about a month, according to the police. Police said that on January 30, a PCR call reporting that a woman was being beaten by her husband was received by the Neb Sarai police station.  The woman was saved by a police team that raced to the scene, and they took her straight to AIIMS.

Upon being admitted to the hospital, the woman’s body had approximately twenty marks of injuries. They also said that she was recently released.

“When police enquired about the matter, the woman stated that she hailed from Darjeeling in West Bengal and came in contact with the accused over the phone,” the official said.

The police added that she became friends with Paras and kept in contact with him for the previous three to four months. The woman acquired a position as a housemaid, therefore the official claimed she was scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru around the first week of January.

Choosing to stop and meet Paras along her train route through Delhi, she was asked to remain and was even given the assurance that he would assist her in finding employment. After receiving his guarantee, the officer said, she stayed with him in a rented house near Raju Park.

Nonetheless, the officer claimed to have quoted the woman that as the days went by, the accused allegedly began beating her up and even sexually attacked her for a week.

She was burnt when Paras allegedly “poured hot dal (lentils) over her” at one point, the officer continued.

The police further stated that, in response to the woman’s accusation, they filed a formal complaint on January 30 under the Indian Penal Code’s sections 323 (voluntarily inflicting pain), 376 (rape), and 377 (sodomy). On February 2, they took the accused into custody.

The police claimed that Paras, an Uttarakhand native, was employed as a cook at a restaurant in Delhi. Investigation is underway, they further added.
