On Monday, the Supreme Court stated that it will not interfere with the counselling for NEET-PG 2022, which is scheduled to commence from September 1.

The bench comprising of Justice DY Chandrachud and the Justice Hima Kohli observed and made this oral remark when a counsel mentioned a matter pertaining to NEET PG, while seeking some clarifications.

The Counsel submitted that the counselling is to start from 1st September. Kindly list it before that.

The bench led by Justice Chandrachud stated that We’ll not interfere. Let the NEET PG counselling go through and don’t stall it anymore. Adding to it, the judge stated that we cannot put the students in jeopardy.

The present matter mentioned was a writ petition challenging the decision of National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBE) to not release the answer key and question paper for NEET-PG 2022. It was observed that the petitioner alleged serious discrepancies in the scores of the candidates who appeared for the test.

The plea has been filled by the doctors who upon completion of their MBBS course have registered under the State Medical Council. The grievance made by them is that though there are serious mismatches in their NEET-PG 2022 scores, the NBE is not granting re-evaluation.

The plea prays that directions be issued to NBE to release the question paper and answer key for NEET-PG 2022; provide options to the candidates to re-evaluate their papers; to declare Clause 9.7 and clause 10.4 unconstitutional; permit candidates to challenge answer keys. Thus, it seeks the indulgence of the court in constituting a High-Power Committee to examine instances of alleged discrepancies in scores to ensure fairness and transparency in the evaluation mechanism. Further, the petition implores it to frame guidelines for publishing question papers and answer keys after the examination. Also, it seeks direction to NBE to upload individual OMR answer sheets in login account along with the question paper and the corresponding answer key, immediately after the examination and to provide the answer key and question paper to the candidates for NEET-PG 2022, upon them filing an RTI application.

It was observed that on August 8 as well, the Court observed that it will not stay the counselling.
