World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has been hospitalized in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, following a health issue during the G20 summit, according to local media outlet O Globo.

Tedros was admitted to Hospital Samaritano Barra da Tijuca on Thursday after experiencing symptoms of labyrinthitis and a hypertensive crisis. The health concerns reportedly began earlier in the week, with the WHO chief showing signs of illness on Monday while attending the G20 summit.

Labyrinthitis, an inner ear disorder, can cause dizziness and balance problems, while hypertensive crises are marked by dangerously high blood pressure that may lead to serious complications if untreated.

The WHO has yet to release an official statement regarding Tedros’s condition. His hospitalization comes at a time when global health challenges remain a key focus of international discussions, particularly during high-profile gatherings like the G20.
