On Tuesday, WhatsApp introduced a new metro card recharge feature for Delhi Metro commuters across Delhi NCR. The service, available in both English and Hindi, allows users to recharge their metro cards through WhatsApp by sending ‘Hi’ to +91 96508 55800 or by scanning the provided QR code.

Commuters can use various payment methods, including UPI, debit, and credit cards, within the chat window to recharge their cards. Ravi Garg, Director of Business Messaging at Meta India, highlighted that this new feature will significantly enhance the travel experience for daily passengers. He noted, “Introducing metro pass recharge via WhatsApp will revolutionize the commuting experience for Delhi Metro users. This integration builds on the success of our QR ticketing systems, moving us closer to simplifying transit for millions in the NCR.”

Android and iOS users can quickly access the chatbot through the payments section on WhatsApp. The service, powered by PeLocal, is available across all Delhi Metro lines, including the Gurugram Rapid Metro.

Previously, WhatsApp enabled QR ticketing across all DMRC routes, providing instant support and information on train schedules, fares, and station details. Other cities, such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Nagpur, and Pune, have also integrated WhatsApp into their transport services in recent months, offering a more convenient transit experience for millions of commuters.
