Week-long 'Patient Safety' workshop kickstarts at PGIMER

A seven-day workshop on ‘Patient Safety’ funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is currently underway at the National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), PGIMER, Chandigarh and it will continue till January 21, 2024.

The inaugural function, held on January 19th, 2024, was attended by Pankaj Rai, Deputy Director Administration, PGIMER, and Prof. Vipin Kaushal, Medical Superintendent cum Head, Department of Hospital Administration, PGIMER, Chandigarh. During the event, Mr. Pankaj Rai underscored the crucial role of nurses as primary caregivers, emphasizing their role as advocates for patient safety. Prof. Vipin Kaushal emphasised the necessity of establishing a culture of safety in hospitals, stating that learning about patient safety is essential, but practical implementation holds equal importance.

Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, Principal of NINE and Coordinator of the workshop, highlighted the paramount importance of patient safety in the current era of complex and challenging patient care environments. She emphasized that while errors may occur, many are preventable through the practice of patient safety. Ms. Neena Vir Singh, Associate Professor at NINE, shared that a total of 30 delegates from various colleges and hospitals in Chandigarh and neighboring states are participating in the workshop.

Over the seven days, the delegates are learning about essential aspects of patient safety from experts in NINE, Hospital Administration, Microbiology, Transfusion Medicine, Hospital Engineering, and Infection Control. The workshop also provides hands-on practice through elaborative group work and mock drills.
