Vikram Misri: The New Foreign Secretary

 Vikram Misri, a 1989-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, assumed office as the 35th Foreign Secretary on Monday, July 15th

 Former Deputy National Security Adviser Vikram Misri, recognized for his roles during the 2020 Galwan conflict in China and as India’s Ambassador to Myanmar (2016-18)

 MEA insiders have hinted that Mr. Kwatra is set to take up the position of the next Indian ambassador to Washington D.C

Mr. Misri is highly regarded in foreign policy circles for his skillful navigation of challenging political environments during his postings in Myanmar and China

Misri was private secretary to Prime Ministers IK Gujral (1997-1998), Manmohan Singh (2012-2014), and Narendra Modi (May-July 2014)

Mr. Vikram takes over from the 34th Foreign Secretary, Vinay Mohan Kwatra

 In a post on X, Jaishankar congratulated Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on assuming his new role today, wishing him a successful tenure ahead
