On February 28, 2025, a huge avalanche hit close to Mana village in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, affecting a Border Roads Organisation camp
The avalanche covered 54 BRO workers who were deployed in eight containers and a shed at the camp
Rescue efforts began immediately, with teams venturing out in challenging weather conditions to find and rescue the buried workers
Rescuers managed to pull out 50 workers from the snow-covered area
Sadly, of the rescued, 4 workers were pronounced dead as a result of injuries caused by the avalanche
Survivors reported the sudden fury of the avalanche, which took away their containers, leaving them under snow
The Indian Army, ITBP, Air Force, NDRF, and SDRF are jointly carrying out rescue operations, using helicopters and specialized teams
Uttarakhand Chief Minister and disaster management authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation, making sure all resources are in place for the rescue operation
