Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the first ISRO astronaut to reach the International Space Station and the second Indian in space, receives a grand welcome in his hometown Lucknow
Shukla landed at Lucknow Airport and was welcomed by Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak amid cheers and chants of pride
Deputy CM Pathak hailed the moment, saying: “Today is a big day for Lucknow. The son of Bharat, the son of Lucknow, set foot in Lucknow”
After the airport reception, Shukla headed to City Montessori School, Gomtinagar, for a felicitation ceremony attended by senior leaders
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation approved naming a road—from Sitapur Main Road to Florence Nightingale School—Shubhanshu Shukla Marg to honour his service
LMC planned welcome gates at prominent city locations, while a victory parade from the airport to Gomti Nagar Extension was set for August 25
Shukla flew aboard the Axiom Mission 4 to the ISS in June 2025, spending nearly 20 days conducting scientific experiments—becoming the first Indian on the ISS
His return marks a pivotal moment in India's space journey. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other leaders hailed his safe return as a proud milestone
