“He Has His Own Reasons”: Tharoor on Rahul Gandhi’s Trump Comment

In a conversation with ANI, Shashi Tharoor was asked about Donald Trump calling India a "dead economy" and Rahul Gandhi's support for his statement

In response to this, the Congress MP said, "I don't want to comment on what my own party leader has said, he has his own reasons for saying it"

Additionally, he talked express his concern over the looming possibility of decline Indian exports to the U.S.

"We are exporting something like $90 billion dollars worth of goods to America. We can't therefore be in a position where we are going to loose that or have it diminished significantly"

He doubled down on his take by saying, "In terms of  a percentage of our exports its considerable. America is for us one of our largest markets"

"We must wish our negotiators strength and courage in working out a fair deal for India...in negotiations you give some you take some," Tharoor said on the trade situation with America

"We need to preserve an export market in America but we should also be talking to other countries...we've already got a free trade agreement with the U.K. which has tremendous potenial," he continued

Tharoor went on say that Donald Trump's comments are "unilateral" and a negotiation between the two governments will decide the final outcome on the issue
