Operation Sindoor: Targets, Response, and Key Details

India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, 2025, targeting nine known terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people on April 22

The Ministry of Defence confirmed the strikes hit terrorist infrastructure, emphasizing that only terror camps were targeted, with no civilian, economic, or military sites hit in Pakistan

Nine sites were targeted—four in Pakistan (Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot) and five in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including locations linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen

Targets included Markaz Subhan Allah (Bahawalpur), Markaz Taiba (Muridke), and camps belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, all known terror hubs

The operation was a direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 dead, mostly tourists. India vowed to hold those responsible accountable

Following the strikes, Pakistan fired artillery across the Line of Control, killing three Indian civilians. The Indian Army responded proportionally to the attacks

Pakistan claimed to have shot down five Indian jets, including Rafale and SU-30 planes. Pakistani officials stated that the attack was a defensive response to India’s actions

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, calling it "cowardly" and vowing a "resolute" response. India planned a briefing on Operation Sindoor later that day

Due to the ongoing tension, several airports in northern India, including Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar, were closed, causing flight disruptions by Air India, SpiceJet, and Air India Express
