Navratri 2024: Maa Kalaratri (Day 7) All You Need To Know

Navratri is devoted to the nine forms of Goddess Durga, which has already commenced on October 3, 2024, and is set to conclude on October 12, with Dusshera falling on the same day

On the seventh day of Navratri, devotees celebrate Goddess Kalaratri, the fiercest and most protective form of Goddess Parvati

This day is significant for those seeking strength and protection, as Kalaratri embodies the qualities of fearlessness and bravery

Goddess Kalaratri is depicted in a striking manner

She has a dark complexion and rides on a donkey, symbolizing her connection to the earth

Her four hands express powerful meanings: the right hands are in Abhaya (protection) and Varada (blessings) mudras, while she wields a sword and an iron hook in her left hands

She is also referred to as Goddess Shubhankari (शुभंकरी), the one who brings auspiciousness

It is believed that when Maa Parvati removed her golden skin to kill demons, she came to be known as Maa Kalaratri

Her name is formed with two words - Kala means death, and Ratri stands for darkness

The auspicious colour of Saptami, is royal blue that represents richness and tranquillity

Offering jaggery as prasad to Maa Kalaratri is believed to alleviate suffering, remove obstacles and bring joy to devotees
