Melania Trump Statue Stolen in Slovenia

A bronze statue of former First Lady Melania Trump has been stolen from her hometown of Sevnica, Slovenia. The sculpture was cut off at the ankles and removed from its base

This marks the second incident involving a statue of Melania Trump in Sevnica. The previous wooden version was set on fire in July 2020

American artist Brad Downey, who commissioned both statues, expressed sadness over the theft. He speculates that the act may be politically motivated

The initial wooden statue, carved by local artisan Aleš Župevc, depicted Melania in her 2017 inauguration outfit. It received mixed reactions from locals

After the wooden statue was destroyed, a bronze replica was installed in September 2020 to replace it. The new statue aimed to be more durable and was placed on the same tree stump

Both statues received mixed reviews from the public. Some locals criticized the likeness, with comparisons to "Smurfette”

Sevnica, a town of about 5,000 residents, has embraced its connection to Melania Trump, offering themed products like honey and chocolate

Slovenian police are investigating the theft, which was reported on May 13, 2025. No suspects have been identified yet
