Kerala to Roll Out Expired Medicine Disposal Project

Kerala is implementing the first government-initiated project for collecting and disposing of expired and unused drugs

The nPROUD (New Programme for Removal of Unused Drugs) scheme will be inaugurated on February 22 at Kozhikode by Health Minister Veena George

The project will initially be launched in Ulliyeri panchayat in Kozhikode Corporation and then gradually be implemented throughout Kerala in phases

The initiative has the objective of preventing environmental contamination, health risks, and drug resistance due to the improper disposal of drugs

The Drugs Control Department is introducing this initiative because there are no proper systems in place for gathering and scientifically processing expired drugs

Drugs will be picked up from households on a regular basis, and members of the public can deposit them in special blue boxes
