India's Civil Defence Mock Drills in Border States
India is set to conduct large-scale civil defence mock drills on May 29 in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir, focusing on districts adjacent to the Pakistan border
These drills follow Operation Sindoor, India's military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which targeted terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir
The exercises aim to test emergency preparedness, including air raid siren activation, blackout procedures, civilian evacuation protocols, and public safety training
Residents are advised to participate actively, following instructions from local authorities to enhance community readiness for potential emergencies
This marks one of the most extensive civil defence exercises since the 1971 Indo-Pak war, reflecting heightened security measures amid current tensions
A similar nationwide drill, Operation Abhyaas, was conducted on May 7 across 244 districts, focusing on wartime emergency preparedness
Authorities emphasize that these drills are precautionary measures to ensure civilian safety and are not indicative of immediate threats
