India-US Counter-Terrorism Boost as TRF Named Global Threat

In a significant move, the United States designated Pakistan-based outfit The Resistance Front (TRF) as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation and Specially Designated Global Terrorist

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar hailed the decision, calling it a strong affirmation of India-US counter-terrorism cooperation

TRF is considered a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a Pakistan-based terror group responsible for several attacks in India

TRF had claimed responsibility for the deadly April 22, 2024, terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which left several security personnel injured

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was thanked by Jaishankar for supporting India’s concerns over terrorism from across the border

Jaishankar emphasized India’s firm stance: “Zero tolerance for terrorism,” highlighting consistent efforts to corner terror groups internationally

The designation freezes any US-based assets of TRF, bans financial dealings, and allows for greater international scrutiny of its activities
