How India Mapped Terror Bases in Pakistan for Operation Sindoor
India-Pakistan tensions escalated after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives, mostly tourists
In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting 21 terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)
The strikes were focused and non-escalatory, aiming solely at terror camps and avoiding military base targets
Prime Minister Modi declared the intent to “identify, track, and punish every terrorist and their backers”
Key targets included Jaish-e-Mohammad’s Bahawalpur HQ and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Markaz Taiba in Muridke, linked to attacks against India
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval devised the strategy, working with a special team to gather intelligence on terror camps
NTRO, under Doval’s supervision, played a key role in gathering intelligence, including signals, imagery, and cyber surveillance
The operation was carried out between 1:05 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. on May 7, following approval from PM Modi
The strikes were retaliation for the Pahalgam attack, where The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility for the killings
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed that at least 100 terrorists were neutralized during the precision strikes
