Glenn Maxwell Announces ODI Retirement After Stellar Career

Australia’s all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs) after playing 149 matches from 2012 to 2025

Maxwell scored 3,990 runs, took 77 wickets, and made 91 catches in his ODI career, playing key roles in Australia’s 2015 and 2023 World Cup wins

He plans to focus on the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka and domestic cricket like the Big Bash League

Maxwell recalled being surprised by his early selection and proud to represent Australia in ODIs

Known for aggressive batting, he had a career strike rate of 126.70 and scored a memorable unbeaten 201 against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup

He also took four four-wicket hauls with his off-spin bowling, making him a valuable all-rounder

Physical fitness concerns and long-term team planning led Maxwell to retire from ODIs to allow younger players to step up for the 2027 World Cup

Selectors Chair George Bailey praised Maxwell’s skill, work ethic, and passion, highlighting his role in Australia’s T20 plans ahead of the next World Cup
