Farmers Resume Protest: Delhi Becomes Fortress Again As They Begin "March To Parliament"
At the Delhi-Noida border thousands of farmers from Uttar Pradesh began their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, demanding compensation and benefits under the new agricultural laws
The farmers, primarily led by the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), are pressing for:
• Increased Compensation: 64.7% higher compensation under the old acquisition law, which includes four times the market rate
• Land Allocation: 10% plots for acquired land and 20% for acquisitions post-January 1, 2014
• Employment & Rehabilitation: Benefits for children of landless farmers
• High Power Committee Orders: Implementation of government directives
• Proper Settlement: Rehabilitation of populated areas impacted by land acquisition
The march began near the Mahamaya Flyover in Noida, with farmers traveling on foot and tractors. Participants hail from 20 districts, including Gautam Buddh Nagar, Agra, Aligarh, and Bulandshahr
Over 4,000 personnel have been stationed at the border, with officers in riot gear prepared to prevent entry into Delhi. Some farmer leaders have been detained as authorities attempt to manage the escalating situation
Police have urged commuters to use the metro to avoid delays and traffic snarls. Emergency helplines have been activated, and commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance
