Climbing New Heights: China's Solar Panels Blanket Mountain Terrains

In Lishui, Zhejiang province, China has installed 95,648 perovskite solar panels on a steep mountain slope, transforming previously unusable land into a renewable energy hub

Developed by MicroQuanta Semiconductor, these perovskite panels boast a 20.2% efficiency rate and are lighter and more adaptable than traditional silicon panels

The panels are elevated two meters above the ground, allowing farmers to cultivate crops like lettuce underneath, optimizing land use through agrivoltaics

Perovskite panels are environmentally friendly, as they do not contain harmful lead and are suitable for rugged terrains like mountains

Inspired by Lishui's success, a larger solar farm has been established in the Taihang Mountains, Hebei province, covering 1,133 hectares

The Taihang solar farm has an installed capacity of 434 megawatts, contributing significantly to China's renewable energy supply

By installing solar panels on steep and previously unusable mountain slopes, China maximizes land efficiency without disrupting existing agriculture

China's innovative approach serves as a model for other countries with similar terrains, demonstrating how to integrate renewable energy with agriculture effectively
