Antarctica’s Pyramid Mountain: The Truth Behind the  Mystery

A peculiar pyramid-shaped mountain in Antarctica has caught the attention of internet users, sparking theories about its origins

The ‘pyramid’ is found in the Ellsworth Mountains at coordinates 79°58’39.25”S 81°57’32.21”W, within the Heritage Range

This mountain was first recorded by American aviator Lincoln Ellsworth during a flight over Antarctica on November 23, 1935

Its sharp, triangular shape is due to freeze-thaw erosion, a process where water seeps into cracks, freezes, expands, and breaks rock over time

Similar pyramidal peaks exist worldwide, including Matterhorn in the Alps and Broad Peak, the world’s 12th highest mountain

This peak is unique because of its distinct shape, making it appear more pyramid-like than other Antarctic mountains
