Anasuya Sengupta Makes History At Cannes: First Indian to Win Best Actress

She became the first Indian actor to win the Best Actress award at the Un Certain Regard segment at Cannes for her role in the film The Shameless directed by Konstantin Bojanov

The nation is abuzz with Anasuya Sengupta's historic win, flooded with congratulatory messages since Saturday. Sengupta dedicated her award “to the queer community".

The Shameless follows a sex worker who flees a Delhi brothel after stabbing a policeman, featuring Anasuya as the lead Renuka.

The film also stars Omara Shetty as Devika, a teenager whom Renuka falls in love with. Film shot in Nepal and Mumbai, is a noir thriller with the backdrop of the devdasi system
