The Defence Ministry inked a ₹1,220.12 crore deal with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bengaluru
The deal is for the acquisition of 149 Software Defined Radios (SDRs) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG)
SDRs will provide enhanced, secure, and reliable communication to the Coast Guard
The radios will enable high-speed data transmission and secure voice communication
Deployment will enhance the ICG's maritime law enforcement, search & rescue, and environmental protection functions
The program is in support of national security and enhances India's Blue Economy goals
The agreement will encourage indigenous defense production and decrease dependence on imports
