Woman Awarded ₹1.5 Lakh Compensation for Unhygienic Conditions in IndiGo Flight

A Delhi consumer forum has held IndiGo Airlines guilty of providing a passenger with an unhygienic, stained seat on a Baku-Delhi flight

Passenger Pinki complained her seat was "dirty, unhygienic, and stained" during the January 2 flight, causing discomfort and mental agony.

She also alleged IndiGo treated her complaint in a "dismissive and insensitive manner," adding to her distress during the journey

IndiGo claimed it took cognisance of her complaint and assigned her a different seat, which she accepted and used for the rest of the flight

The forum, after reviewing evidence, ruled IndiGo guilty of "deficiency in service" and liable to compensate the passenger

It directed IndiGo to pay ₹1.5 lakh for mental agony, physical pain, and harassment faced by the passenger

Additionally, the airline must pay ₹25,000 as litigation expenses, further increasing the total penalty

The forum noted IndiGo failed to produce the Situation Data Display (SDD) report, crucial for verifying passenger-related incidents

The absence of this key operational record weakened IndiGo’s defence, leading to the compensation order against the airline
