West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar held a meeting with state election commissioner Sourav Das on Thursday in which he wanted to know about the pace and nature of Kolkata pre-poll preparations.

The governor also questioned the deployment of central forces to ensure a fair pre-poll.

According to Raj Bhavan sources, the governor asked the state election commissioner about the steps being taken to hold the upcoming elections in a peaceful manner. Das informed him that all measures would be taken for a peaceful voting.

The BJP has been demanding the central government to hold the polls since the announcement of the day of Kolkata pre-poll. West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar has been demanding the deployment of central forces in the bypolls.

The BJP claimed that the elections would never be peaceful and free if the state police conduct the polls. They have also appealed to the Election Commission for the same and said that he would go to court if necessary.
