As the Centre announced a mega-bonanza for Bihar in the Union Budget 2024, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hailed the move, saying he has been lobbying for either special category status for the state or financial assistance.

I have continually advocated for this, and I informed them as well. “I told them to give us either a special status or a special package,” Kumar remarked.

“As a follow-up, they have announced aid for a lot of things… We were speaking of special status and a lot of people said that the provision for special status has been done away with much earlier. So, instead of that, they have now announced aid to help Bihar,” he added.

“They have started giving aid to assist Bihar,” he stated.

The opposition has attacked the Nitish Kumar administration over its quest for special status. On Monday, the Centre firmly refused to fulfill the requirement.

Before the presentation of Union Budget, Kumar stated, “Sab kuch dhire dhire jaan jaiyega.”

In the Union Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman pledged a Rs 26,000 crore boost for Bihar’s roads and highways. She also announced the construction of two new highways in the state, as well as the establishment of many airports, medical institutes, and sports facilities.
