When it comes to the Olympics, both current and former athletes share the same level of excitement.

Another edition of the Summer Olympics is almost here, officially opening on July 26 in Paris, where 117 Indian athletes will be competing for that elusive medal, especially gold. Sharing in the excitement and nervousness of athletes and fans worldwide is none other than World Cup winner and former coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, Ravi Shastri.

“In less than 36 hours, the greatest show on earth is just about to begin. All eyes will be on Paris and the curtains will go up at Olympics 2024, where you will have hundreds of athletes from all around the globe competing for that exclusive medal,” Shastri said in a video he posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. “It is one medal, the gold medal, that tops the list for all sportspersons, irrespective of which sport they play.”

India will start their campaign with archery, in the ranking rounds set to be played on Thursday, a day before the Games officially commence with the Opening Ceremony at the scenic Seine River in the heart of Paris.

“Go and ask a tennis player, go and ask a basketball player. They might be making millions around the globe in various leagues, but when it comes to the Olympic Games, those are the medals they are chasing,” Shastri further stated in the video.

“Can’t wait to be there! It’s going to light up Paris in less than 36 hours. But let me assure you, the stake will just get bigger and higher. Go for it!” he concluded.
