Amritpal Singh, the leader of ‘Waris Punjab De’ and a prominent figure in the pro-Khalistan movement, is poised to become a Member of Parliament (MP) for Khadoor Sahib constituency in Delhi. He has taken oath on 5th June follows his electoral victory in the recent Lok Sabha elections, where he secured a substantial lead of 1,97,120 votes over Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira.

After meeting Singh’s parents, Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh said using NSA to stop people from speaking their minds is wrong. He asked why slogans supporting a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ are praised in Parliament, but Sikh ideas like a ‘Sikh Rashtra’ are punished.

Amritpal Singh journey to Parliament has been marked by controversy and legal battles. He was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) since April last year, accused of promoting Khalistani ideology and disturbing public order. His release from Dibrugarh jail has sparked discussions on freedom of expression and the application of stringent laws like NSA.
