Netanyahu Defends Trump’s Gaza Plan, Calls It Bold and Visionary

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Jerusalem. They discussed President Donald Trump’s controversial Gaza proposal. According to Netanyahu, Israel is working closely with the U.S. to implement this plan. The proposal suggests that the U.S. would take control of Gaza and relocate 2 million Palestinians to redevelop the area.

Trump’s Plan Defended by Netanyahu

Netanyahu defended the plan as “bold and visionary.” During their meeting, both Netanyahu and Rubio blamed Iran for the ongoing violence in the Middle East. They also emphasized the need to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Controversy Over Palestinian Relocation

The plan has raised concerns. While Israeli officials stated the relocation of Palestinians would be temporary, Trump insists they won’t be allowed to return. This has sparked confusion and worry among many. Netanyahu assured reporters, “We discussed Trump’s bold vision for Gaza’s future and will work to ensure that vision becomes a reality.”

Rubio Calls It a “Breakthrough”

Rubio referred to the proposal as a “breakthrough.” He added, “It may have shocked and surprised many. But what cannot continue is the same cycle where we repeat over and over again and wind up in the exact same place.”

Far-Right Leaders Support the Proposal

Israeli far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich voiced his support for Trump’s plan. Smotrich hopes the transfer of Palestinians will begin soon. He stated, “It will gradually pick up pace and intensify.” He also described Gaza as uninhabitable for Palestinians for the next 10 to 15 years due to continued conflict.

Challenges and International Criticism

Smotrich noted the challenge of finding countries willing to accept the displaced Palestinians. He also acknowledged the difficulty of organizing such a large logistical operation. Meanwhile, international organizations have criticized the plan. They have called it a potential crime against humanity.

Legal Challenges and Netanyahu’s Response

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is investigating genocide claims against Israel. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has also issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Netanyahu dismissed these courts, calling it “lawfare.” He thanked the Trump administration for imposing sanctions on the ICC and hinted at further joint actions against international legal bodies.

No Answers on Ceasefire or Hostages

During the meeting, neither Netanyahu nor Rubio addressed the Gaza ceasefire terms. They also did not discuss the return of hostages.
