Israel Confirms Strikes on Yemen’s Hodeida Port After Houthi Airport Attack in Tel Aviv

The army of Israel confirmed on Monday that it conducted aerial bombardments on Houthi targets in the Yemeni port of Hodeida on Monday, following a claim by the Iran-backed rebels earlier that an IDF attacked the port.

Houthi Attacks on Ben-Gurion Airport in Israel

The move follows an attack on Sunday by the Houthis, which targeted Israel’s principal David Ben-Gurion airport at Tel Aviv with a missile. Israeli “fighter planes attacked terrorist targets of the Huthi terror regime, on Yemen’s coastline and inland,” the military explained in a release, according to AFP.

The release asserted that the port of Hodeida “is being utilized for the transportation of Iranian weapons, military hardware, and other equipment meant for terror objectives.”

Houthi Strike on Hodeida Port and Cement Plant

Earlier on the day, the rebels’ media center had stated that the United States and Israel conducted at least six strikes on Monday afternoon that targeted the vital Hodeida port. Additional strikes targeted a cement plant in the Bajil district in Hodeida province, the rebels added. In a separate incident, the US military conducted several strikes on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, the Associated Press reported, citing an official.

Houthi Missile Attack on Airport in Israel

A missile fired by Iranian-backed Yemeni rebels temporarily stopped flights and commuter traffic at Israel’s David Ben-Gurion International airport in Tel Aviv on Sunday. Four individuals sustained light injuries.

A missile hit the grounds of Israel’s airport for the first time since the Gaza war began 18 months ago.

Though air traffic resumed after an hour, the attack may lead to the cancellation of numerous airlines that had resumed flights to Israel after the temporary halt. Numerous airlines, such as Air India, had already cancelled their flights to the Israeli capital following the missile strike.

The raid on Ben-Gurion International Airport occurred hours ahead of Israeli Cabinet ministers’ voting to escalate the war in Gaza, including to capture the Gaza Strip and to remain in the Palestinian land for an indefinite period of time.
