Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called US President Donald Trump to discuss Trump’s recent call with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding a partial ceasefire in Ukraine. The two presidents also talked about possible diplomatic actions in the future.

Trump placed the call from the Oval Office, according to White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino.

Ceasefire Talks Gain Momentum

Zelensky, who has repeatedly called for increased US support, was expecting more information on Trump’s conversation with Putin. The US and Russia had committed to a partial ceasefire in the conflict, including a ceasefire on attacks against energy infrastructure. Putin, however, turned down Trump’s call for a wider 30-day ceasefire, highlighting the ongoing rift between the two countries.

White House national security adviser Mike Waltz posted on social media that US and Russian technical teams would meet shortly in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to discuss implementing the ceasefire and possible expansion. It is unknown if Ukrainian officials will sit down at these talks.
