A 39-year-old man, Bipul Shikari, has been apprehended by Delhi police on charges of murdering a 12-year-old boy in Mumbai’s Wadala area. Shikari, who was captured on August 21, had been on the run since the boy’s death earlier this year. The child’s mutilated body was found on March 4. Shikari’s arrest was made possible by information provided by Mumbai authorities.
Confession of Additional Murders
During interrogation, Shikari confessed to committing two additional murders. According to police officials, Shikari admitted to killing a minor boy and his friend, Raju Mandal from Kolkata. Mandal had reportedly threatened to report Shikari to the authorities for the murder of his wife, a crime for which Shikari had previously been convicted. Shikari, who had been out on bail during the COVID-19 pandemic, had evaded capture and continued his criminal activities.
Details of the Crimes
Shikari disclosed that he murdered the minor boy after the child threatened to expose him for sexually assaulting him. He confessed to drowning and killing the boy, disposing of the body in the Wadala area. Regarding Mandal, Shikari revealed that he pushed Mandal from a bridge, stabbed him multiple times, and then dumped the body in a marshland. Shikari’s confession also detailed how he had been involved in local gangs in Kolkata before transitioning to a life of crime in Mumbai.
Background and Previous Convictions
Shikari’s criminal history includes a previous conviction for his wife’s murder. After his boss was killed in a police encounter, Shikari’s criminal activities escalated. He had been working as a pimp in red-light districts before his arrest. Authorities are currently investigating his statements and searching for the locations where Shikari disposed of the bodies.
Police and Legal Actions
DCP Prashant Kadam of the Wadala division has emphasized the need to expedite the case. He stated, “We want to fast-track the case and appoint a special public prosecutor, as Shikari is a hardened criminal. We will use his previous convictions to seek the maximum punishment.” The investigation continues as authorities work to locate additional evidence and verify Shikari’s confessions.
