Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Dr. Yash Garg stated that the Haryana Legislative Assembly General Elections 2024 will be held on October 5. Only those whose names are listed in the voter list will be eligible to vote. He urged voters to verify their names and polling booths before election day, which can be done online through the Election Commission’s website, the Voter Helpline app, or by calling the toll-free number 1950.
Dr. Garg clarified that if a voter’s name is in the list but they don’t have their voter ID card, they can still cast their vote using one of 12 alternative photo identification documents approved by the Election Commission. He emphasized that even without a voter information slip, a person can vote as long as their name is in the voter list. Dr. Garg reminded voters that October 5 is not just a holiday but a day to fulfill their democratic duty by participating in the voting process.Dr. Yash Garg listed the 12 alternative photo identification documents voters can use if they don’t have their voter ID card: Aadhaar card, MNREGA job card, driving license, PAN card, Indian passport, pension document with a photo, photo ID card issued by central/state governments, PSUs, or public limited companies, photo passbooks from banks or post offices, smart cards issued under the National Population Register, health insurance smart cards issued under the Ministry of Labor’s schemes, official ID cards for MPs, MLAs, and MLCs, and the Unique Disability ID (UDID) card for Divyangjans.
He also mentioned that Non-Resident Indian (NRI) voters only need to present their original passport for identification. If there’s a mismatch in a voter’s photograph in the EPIC, one of the alternative documents will be required.
Dr. Garg added that voters can easily check their voter list details and polling booth locations online and download their digital voter ID card (e-EPIC) from the Election Commission’s website.
