It has been over a year since Bollywood’s prominent pair, Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, exchanged vows in Rajasthan. Their Instagram post held the record for the most likes for a year, but now, cricket legend Virat Kohli has taken the spotlight with his post celebrating India’s victory in the T20 World Cup on Saturday.

Virat’s Instagram post showcasing the Indian cricket team lifting the T20 World Cup trophy has now become the most liked post from India on the platform, surpassing Sidharth and Kiara’s wedding post.

After India’s thrilling T20 World Cup victory on June 29, Virat took to Instagram to commemorate the win with a heartfelt message, also announcing his retirement from the T20 format. Now, his post has soared to become the most liked photo on Instagram in India, amassing an impressive 18 million likes.

The star cricketer shared multiple images shortly after clinching the World Cup. One photo captured him and his teammates jubilantly posing with the trophy, while others showcased the celebratory atmosphere in the locker room post-match. His caption expressed his gratitude, saying, “This day couldn’t have been any better. God is awesome, and I’m so grateful. We finally pulled it off!”

Virat’s post celebrating India’s T20 World Cup victory has surpassed Sidharth and Kiara’s wedding post as the most liked on Instagram in India. While Sidharth-Kiara’s post has garnered over 16 million likes, Virat’s celebratory post has garnered over 18 million likes.

In 2023, Kiara and Sidharth caused a sensation on the internet with their Instagram post! They tied the knot on February 7, and their fans were thrilled. The photos they shared from their wedding were stunning, sparking a frenzy of excitement. Prior to Sid and Kiara’s post, Alia Bhatt held the record for Instagram likes, with 13.19 million fans double-tapping her wedding photo with Ranbir Kapoor.

Despite Virat’s post receiving numerous likes, it still falls far short of Lionel Messi’s most-liked post of all time. Messi’s post celebrating the 2022 FIFA World Cup victory has garnered over 75.3 million likes.

Virat Kohli’s strategic brilliance and Rohit Sharma’s inspiring captaincy ended India’s 11-year quest for a global title as the star-studded team defeated perennial contenders South Africa in a back-and-forth final to claim their second T20 World Cup trophy. Kohli, a veteran of India’s 2011 ODI World Cup victory, announced his retirement from the format immediately after the match. “It’s time for the next generation to take over. It was an open secret, and I would have announced it even if we had lost,” Virat stated.
